ABOUT JAN PINKSTON

Pinkston_129_001_Websize.jpg

“Playing with paints” was the way I described my artwork for many years, finding time to sketch and paint only when on vacation, away from home and its day-to-day demands. Then I saw a photo in our local paper of an art show. Three women were standing in front of a wall of gorgeous watercolors of flowers. It took my breath away. From the article with the photo I found the name of Cara Brown, the mentor and teacher of a group of artists who called themselves 537 Magnolias. I called Cara and she warmly invited me to come join the group’s next session. That was 2015. I’ve painted with Cara and the Magnolias one to two days a week since that first meeting, in person or by Zoom.

Going from “playing with paints” to consistently, persistently putting a brush into water, then into paint and onto paper has made me a watercolorist! It is with deep appreciation to Cara for lovingly guiding, teaching and then allowing me to ask, “If this were your painting, what would you do,” and to my fellow Magnolias for their encouragement and friendship.

Giclees of my paintings are available. Sizes and prices upon request.
